Julie's Story
Julie came to Monaghan Heights to prepare herself for her dream job: A Mounted Police! Julie worked hard to make her dream come true. After about a year, she tried out for the unit, and she made it! Julie did a 15 week program and passed with flying colours! Congratulations, Julie! MHS is very proud of you! Here is her story, as she texted her experiences in the program.
January
Jan 16th: Great first week! Lots of bareback riding. We started on side pass yesterday. Can't wait til Monday!
Jan 23rd: Honest Ed and I at the end of Week 2! We worked on rising trot quite a bit, side pass, and a little bit of canter work.
Jan 26th: Timmis and I... great start of the week. Turns on forehand, canter work today. Great day! He is really lovely... standardbred draft cross. Very athletic, so much fun to ride.
Jan 29th: Obstacle day... lots of fun! I was so impressed with what these horses will walk through.
Jan 30th: Simcoe and I. Great 3rd week. We did troop training with firecrackers and smoke bombs.
March
March 6th: Another week finished. Did a fair bit of jumping this week and it went very well.
March 16th: Heading out in our riot gear. No riot, just riding outside with his gear on.
March 21st: Elvis and I. I can't believe how fast the weeks are flying by. Graduation is approaching! I am so glad you are going to come. The musical ride is going to be performed. It has not been performed since 1993.
April 1st: Charger and I passed our final riding test!
February
February 3rd: Sutherland and I. Troop training. All the stuff laying around had been waved and thrown at us! We had a great day.
Feb 6th: Dragon and I. Good week 4. Did a couple of small jumps this week. Week went well.
Feb 13th: Sutherland and I. Had my spur test today. Passed and got awarded my spurs!
Feb 20th: Honest Ed. Another Great Week!
Graduation Day!
April 10th: Graduation Day. Thank you, Leona so much for coming today. I could not have done it without you!
